Aap Ki Khatir Restaurant Review (SDA, South Delhi)

Have been a fan of this brand for a while now, even though some of my friends would never go near this joint due to prior post-eating bathroom stress (maybe we have a solution for constipated here!!).

The mutton kakori in warqi parantha is an absolute beauty in taste, but a bit heavy on the stomach & an artery clogger - still must try for any newly AKK introduced individuals in Delhi (if they still exist)!

Recently have discovered the hidden gem in their menu - the mutton tikka (romali) roll. Since discovery, tried ordering it three times with success only once. Moral of the story - its soooo f***ing good that it runs out all the time!!!! Hence, a must try for old and new AKK fans.

The chicken tikka (romali) roll is pretty standard, nothing special to write home about. The fatties in the room can upgrade this to the chicken tikka roll in a warqi parantha - better than the romali simply due to the added butteriness of the parantha, but nothing overly special.

Finally, a few words on the 2 chutneys they send along - a curd based non-spicy chutney and a green chilly spicy chutney. For the spice intolerant, the first one is recommended and for the spice tolerant, the latter has got a great kick to it. For me, its a mixture of the two that just tastes awesome. (Just a quick thought around these and my suspicion that its the chutneys that affected my friends mentioned at the start of the review)

All in all, good food, reasonably priced, decent delivery times from a neighborhood north Indian delivery outlet.

Berco’s Restaurant Review (MGF Metropolitan Mall, Saket, South Delhi)

Me: What should be ordered-in on a Friday night

Missus: How about some Chinese?

Me: Sounds great, lets check our ever-reliable ZXXXXX.

A quick 2 minute search and we decide on Berco's - how can we be wrong with something rated 3.5 and is the largest Chinese restaurant chain in Delhi! I don't think we were wrong, but I wasn't overly impressed with the food as well - on the other hand they do deliver what they are suppose to deliver, some greasy Punjabi style Chinese dishes.

Order placed @ 8.45 - Delivered @ 9.52: Is 1 hour 7 minutes the average delivery time in Delhi? Maybe, but we all have been spoilt by the 30 minutes delivery time promise or FREE service by Dominos.

Moving onto the order itself:

  • Hot & Sour Chicken Soup: Good, but a bit different than the usual available at similar outlets. It was however a big helping, enough for 2 bowls.
  • Vegetable Lemon Coriander Soup: Not sure how it tasted, as this was the missus pick and I would never go near vegetable dishes as such.?- Wok Fried Chicken with Basil, Chili & Garlic: Good taste of basil, even though a bit oily for my liking.
  • Sliced Lamb in Chili Sauce: Now this dish (if it had chicken instead of lamb) is what all North Indian, Punjabi Chinese loving foodies would gorge on. For me, it was a bit tooo Punjabi in taste and not enough Chinese in nature.
  • Chili Garlic Noodles INSTEAD of the Butter Pepper Garlic Noodles: Yes, we skipped the later due to the word "Butter" in the name of the dish, as the missus doesn't approve of anything with butter. Having said that, I believe anything with butter added to it tastes better than what it did before the butter as added!!!

Looking at the order above, I do see the common thread running through it - CHILLI/GARLIC/CHICKEN, something any self-respecting Indian Chinese connoisseur would stick with. We got what we deserved, my only complain being the amount of oil used in cooking all the dishes.

All in all, it delivered what its suppose to deliver, but I prefer some of its competition in the space - Golden Dragon, Lotus Pond, etc etc.

Fork You Restaurant Review (Hauz Khas Village (HKV), South Delhi)

FACT 1: I just love the name of this place, Fork You and would have visited it even without having seen the "Build Your Own Burger" option.

FACT 2: Why they have a food menu apart from the "Build Your Own Burger" sheet is beyond me. Ok, I guess they do need to have other options available (allowing me to trick the wife into going here, as she doesn't like burgers). But I have to be honest with you guys, please only go here to have the burgers and NOTHING ELSE (maybe the Lime Margaritas as well - more on that later).

Just finished a satisfying lunch meal here about an hour ago. I enjoy the fact that I can choose whatever goes into my burger and this interactive aspect of the menu is great! Saturday lunch @1 pm, the place was almost deserted with just one other table taken by a couple (who clearly weren't there for the burgers and maybe had mistaken the restaurant for lodhi gardens).

My order was as follows:
1. Tenderloin Patty - Medium
2. 6 oz (yes its not 10oz, all you macho meat-eating, beer-guzzling men, but it was lunch time remember!!)
3. Sesame Bun
4. Fries
5. American Cheddar
6. Tomato, Lettuce, Bacon
7. Spicy Chilli Mayo

No complaints with the burger at all for me. If I could pinpoint any fault at all - it was the fries. A bit crispier, a bit saltier and they would have hit the spot.

Just to round up the review, this place isn't always deserted. My first visit was on a Friday night, reached at around 8.55 pm as per my visiting policy for HKV (reach there before 9pm on a Friday or Saturday night OR don't bother going). The place was decently filled with a few tables still available - turn the clock to 11pm and the place is packed with loud music and quite a good atmosphere if you are there for a few beers, good rock music and of course the BURGERS (mind you, I am not sure you would find a place to stand to actually eat that burger). Would also highly recommend the lime margaritas - one of the better ones I have had in Delhi. Also don't make the same mistake we did after a few pitchers, to try other flavors such as the strawberry - stick with the lime, it's the best.

Highly recommended to anyone who likes burgers and/or lime margaritas!
